USC men's tennis alum Steve Johnson is going strong through the first two rounds of Wimbledon this year.
Johnson, who won 72 straight singles matches while at USC, has ony dropped one set in two matches so far.
In the opening round on Monday, 26th-seeded Johnson dispatched of Argentinean Nicolas Kicker in straight sets. In today's second round matchup, Johnson fought through a swarm of flying ants to defeat Moldovan Radu Albot, 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Johnson's two victories put him in place for a third round matchup against Croatian Marin Cilic, who's seeded No. 7. Cilic has racked up two straight-sets victories at Wimbledon so far, over Florian Mayer and Philipp Kolschreiber (both of Germany).
Johnson and Cilic have met two times before, with Cilic taking both decisions. Should Johnson pull off an upset, he'll match his career best by advancing to the fourth round at Wimbledon.
Last year, Johnson made it to the fourth round as well, where he fell to arguably the greatest player of all time: Roger Federer.
Johnson gets his shot at Cilic at 3:30 a.m. PT on Friday. The match will be broadcast on ESPN networks and WatchESPN.
