USC Rowing Races Hard Against Harvard and Yale

BOSTON, Mass.--The No. 13 USC women's rowing team showed great promise as they competed against two of the strongest programs in the country in Ivy League opponents No. 6 Yale and No. 16 Harvard on the Charles River in Boston, Mass. on Saturday (April 22).
"It was an amazing opportunity for us to be part of such a great tradition and to be welcomed by both Harvard and Yale to participate in a race which is really sacred to them," said USC rowing head coach Zenon Babraj. "I am grateful to Liz (Harvard head coach) and Will (Yale head coach) for the invitation and hospitality and especially for the hard fought and exciting racing. Unfortunately this time we came up a little short, losing narrowly to Yale in the Varsity and four. However I thought both races were solid, especially considering the time change and difficult weather conditions with low temperatures and wind. We are looking forward to another challenging day of racing with Brown in Providence tomorrow."
The Trojans were ahead in the opening race of the day, but USC's Varsity Four placed second with a time of 7:08.040 just behind Yale's 7:06.905 as the Bulldogs pushed past the Trojans in their final 10 strokes. USC then placed third in the 2V8 race with a 6:50.386 time. Finally, USC's Varsity Eight defeated Harvard with a time of 6:21.637, but placed second behind Yale by two seconds.

USC will hit the waters of the Seekonk River in Providence, R.I. as they face No. 9 Brown tomorrow (April 23) beginning at 8 a.m.
