Anthony lands on the First Team and Molen grabs Second Team accolades for 2017.
Two members of the defending national champion USC women's soccer team have earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, as redshirt senior forward Alex Anthony and senior midfielder Nicole Molen were named to the District 8 First Team and Second Team, respectively, as announced today (Nov. 9) by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Redshirt senior forward Alex Anthony makes her first appearance on a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, earning First Team honors for her standout efforts on the field and in the classroom in 2017. After completing her undergraduate coursework in just three years at Maryland, finishing with a 3.90 GPA as a double major in sociology and psychology, Anthony currently holds a 3.66 GPA as a graduate student pursuing her Masters in Public Policy at USC. This season, Anthony earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors and was also named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award in September for her work both on and off the pitch.
The offensive-minded veteran has appeared in 16 games this season and leads USC in goals (7) and game winners (3), while adding 2 assists for a total of 16 points. Anthony has made an immediate impact since arriving on campus in 2016, having netted 17 total goals and 7 assists in her Trojan career while also leading the team in total shots in both seasons at Troy.
Senior midfielder Nicole Molen makes her third straight appearance on a CoSIDA All-Academic District 8 honor roll with her nod on the Second Team in 2017 after earning First Team honors in 2015 and 2016. Molen, who holds an impressive 3.92 GPA as a human biology major, is a senior captain for the Women of Troy and has played in all 18 games this season, recording 4 goals and 3 assists while recently being named to the All-Pac-12 Third Team. In her career, the two-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Teamer holds totals of 12 goals (4 game-winners) and 9 assists.
Anthony and Molen are two of 14 Pac-12 players among the 24 selections. Furthermore, as a First-Team honoree, Anthony qualifies for the final CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where potential first, second, and third team All-American honorees will be announced in December.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
