Three Trojan First-Teamers Headline 2017 All-Pac-12 Honor Roll
November 07, 2017 | Women's Soccer, Features
Alex Anthony, Savannah DeMelo and Ally Prisock are All-Pac-12 First Team picks.
A bumper crop of Trojans have landed All-Pac-12 honors for 2017, with eight USC women's soccer players standing tall with conference awards as the Trojans turn to defend their 2016 NCAA title. USC's three All-Pac-12 First Team honorees are the second most in program history. And for the first time since 2007, USC has three newcomers on the All-Freshman Team. That goes along with one Second Team honoree and a pair of Third Team selections, making it a grand total of eight Trojans on the Pac-12 honor roll.Â
The only repeat honoree on the list is senior forward and USC's top scorer Alex Anthony, who was an All-Pac-12 Second Team pick in 2016 before upgrading her status this season with a spot on the All-Pac-12 First Team. In a display of USC's depth this season, Anthony is joined by reliable junior defender Ally Prisock — a 2015 All-Freshman Team member in her first year at Troy — and savvy freshman midfielder Savannah DeMelo. DeMelo also has a spot on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. DeMelo joins the likes of Kayla Mills (2014), Amy Rodriguez (2005) and Isabelle Harvey (1996) as the only Trojan freshmen to be named to the all-conference first team.Â
The rest of USC's All-Pac-12 award winners are first-time selections. USC's second leading scorer in 2017, junior forward Leah Pruitt, has muscled her way to a spot on the All-Pac-12 Second Team. Senior captain Nicole Molen, who just secured her first career brace, has a place on the All-Pac-12 Third Team alongside sixth-year senior defender Dominique Randle.
Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honorees Savannah DeMelo and the versatile Tara McKeown have each contributed four goals and five assists apiece to the Trojan cause to help secure their conference awards. Redshirt freshman Kaylie Collins, meanwhile, hauls in All-Freshman honors as well in standing tall as USC's go-to goalkeeper with seven shutouts to her name in her first season of work for the Trojans.
The Trojans are lined up as a No. 3 seed in this year's NCAA Tournament, with the defending champs hosting Eastern Washington in the NCAA First Round at 12 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 11) at McAlister Field.
