Boatwright Named To the Malone Award Watch List

USC junior Bennie Boatwright was one of 20 players to be named to the preseason watch list for the Karl Malone Award as the nation's top power forward. The award is named after the Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, which recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men's college basketball.
"Karl Malone is unquestionably one of the greatest power forwards, a truly gifted player and an exemplary teammate," said John Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "He had a phenomenal career and we are privileged to present an award bearing his name for the best power forward in the college game today."
Boatwright averaged 15.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 19 games last season. He missed 17 of USC's first 22 games, but ended up leading the team in points per game and helped guide the Trojans to two wins in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The two-year Trojan captain led the team in 2016-17 with an average of 2.5 three-point baskets made per game and with a 90.7 shooting percentage from the free throw line.
By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2018 Karl Malone Award will be narrowed to 10. In March, five finalist will be presented to Mr. Malone and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, Calif. on April 6, 2018.
