HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. -- USC beach volleyball juniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes picked up three straight-set wins to claim the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge title on Sunday, April 10, at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Claes and Hughes defeated the Trojans' duo of junior Sophie Bukovec and senior Alexa Strange, 21-9, 21-12, in the title match to run their season record to 27-0 and have now won 52 straight matches.
Juniors Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler finished second in the silver bracket on a hard-fought loss to Kobi Pekich and Sammee Thomas of Long Beach State, 21-17, 15-21, 15-11. Sophomore Jo Kremer and senior Zoe Nightingale claimed the bronze title with a win over teammates freshman Becca Dunn and senior Emily Young in the final.
