An MRI on the left knee of USC sophomore forward Bennie Boatwright revealed a Grade 2 sprain of his medial collateral ligament and he is expected to miss six weeks, it was announced by USC head coach Andy Enfield today (Dec. 1).
"Bennie (Boatwright) has a Grade 2 sprain of the MCL," said Enfield. "No surgery is required. The approximate recovery time is six weeks."
Boatwright was injured three minutes into USC's 76-55 win at San Diego on Nov. 30, when a player collided with him as he attempted a shot under the basket. He left the game immediately and had an MRI this afternoon which revealed the Grade 2 sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
Boatwright, a USC co-captain, is averaging 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in five games this season for the Trojans. He missed USC's first two games of the season with spasms in his upper back and suffered a hip injury during the summer which kept him out of about a month of USC's preseason practices.
Boatwright averaged 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds last season and made 60 three-point baskets, tied for third on USC's all-time freshman list. This preseason Boatwright was one of 20 players included on the watchlist for the 2017 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award.
