LOS ANGELES - The USC women's volleyball program closed the books on the 2013 season at its annual awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Galen Center Founders' Room. The Women of Troy completed the year in third place in the Pac-12 (16-4) with a 29-6 overall record and advanced to their fifth NCAA regional title match in seven years; the program's 10th since the tournament expanded to include 64 teams in 1998.
The Trojans, their supporters, and fans enjoyed brunch service and were treated to season review slide shows, videos, and speeches. Three-time USC All-American middle blocker Emily Adams Knight was the banquet's guest of honor and delivered the special keynote speech.
Senior libero Natalie Hagglund was honored by her teammates and was chosen to receive the Paula Weishoff Award as the team MVP for the second year in a row. Hagglund also took home the Debbie Landreth Award as the team's best passer and the Nicole Davis Award as the team's best digger.
Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bricio received a pair of trophies as she claimed the Alex Jupiter Award for most points scored and the April Ross Award as the team's best server. Senior middle Alexis Olgard earned the Emily Adams Award as the best blocker and senior outside Sara Shaw received the Patti Bright Award, which is chosen by the coaching staff and given to the player who best exemplifies the Spirit of Troy.
Freshman outside hitter Ebony Nwanebu earned the Sue Woodstra Award as USC's best attacker. Junior setter Hayley Crone was awarded the Debbie Green Award as the best setter and was also bestowed with the Coaches Award.
USC's spring volleyball regiment begins on Monday (Jan. 13). The Trojans will begin preparations for a run at the 2014 NCAA championship, which will be hosted by the Big XII Conference in Oklahoma City, Okla., in December.
