USC 14th-year head diving coach Hongping Li, on the heels of another strong showing by Trojan divers including an NCAA title by sophomore Haley Ishimatsu, was named 2013 Pac-12 Women's Diving Coach of the Year on Thursday (April 11) for the fifth year in a row and for the 10th time overall - both conference records.
Li has guided Trojan men's and women's divers to seven NCAA titles, including Ishimatsu's 2013 platform crown in March when the first-year Trojan shattered the NCAA record for points (396.75) in the event.
Overall, USC divers under Li have earned 35 All-American honors and 28 Pac-12 titles. Li was also the 2002 and 2006 NCAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year.
Ishimatsu also won the platform title at the 2013 Pac-12 Championships and was second on 1-meter and fourth on 3-meter, earning Women's Diver of the Meet honors. She followed that with wins on 1-meter and platform at the 2013 NCAA Zone E Championships. She dominated the platform with 729.85 combined prelim and final points, including a 99-point dive scored as a perfect 10, the first of her career.
Freshman Sam Adams was also a two-time finalist at the Pac-12 Championships and just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
