Anderson 2nd In U.S. 10K Nationals

Trojan junior Haley Anderson finished second at the USA 10K National Championships Friday morning (April 27) in Fort Myers, Fla., securing a place in the Olympic Qualifier 10K in Portugal on June 9.
Anderson finished in 2:03:50.448 for second place behind winner Ashley Twichell's first-place 2:03:06.038. Anderson out-raced Twichell's club teammate, Christine Jennings (2:03.56.451) and Eva Fabian (2:03.56.558) for the second spot.
Anderson, the 2012 NCAA champion in the 500y free and All-American in the 1650y free, will join Duke graduate Twichell at the 2012 FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier in Setubal, Portugal. Fifteen women at the event will earn Olympic bids, but only one per country.
Anderson was fourth at the U.S. 10K in 2011 and sixth in 2010. She also represented the U.S. at the 2010 World Open Water Championships.
In addition to her open water pursuits, Anderson will compete at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials from June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Neb., along with a host of current, former and incoming Trojans.
A handful of international Trojans have already qualified for the 2012 Olympics.
Katinka Hosszu, who finished her brilliant career at USC with her fourth and fifth career titles at the 2012 NCAA Championships in March, has qualified to represent Hungary in her third Olympics. She has qualified to race in the 200m fly, 200m and 400m IM and the 800m free relay.
NCAA finalist Vladimir Morozov, USC's best-ever sprinter who was re-written the Trojan record books in his first two years at Troy, will represent Russia in the 100m back and the 400m free relay. At the recently completed Russian nationals, Morozov took second in the 100m back and was fourth in the 100m free to earn his spots. He missed a slot in the 50m free by 0.01.
Trojan sophomore Stina Gardell, a 2012 All-American, will represent Sweden in London in the 400m IM.
Former Trojan Ous Mellouli, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the 1500m free, will represent Tunisia again in 2012 in the 200m, 400m and 1500m free.
