Ray Sarmiento Repeats As Pac-12 Player of the Week

For the third week in a row, the USC men's tennis team has a Trojan on the honor roll as Pac-12 Player of the Week. Now a double winner on the year, sophomore Ray Sarmiento has earned his most recent weekly honor after helping the Trojans haul in head coach Peter Smith's 200th career win at USC with a winning road trip to open up Pac-12 play.
Sarmiento was dominant in doubles and singles against Washington and #59 Oregon. He paired with Daniel Nguyen for an 8-2 win in doubles at Washington before pinning up a 6-4, 6-3 win in singles over Husky Emmett Egger. At Oregon the following day, he opened with an 8-3 win in doubles before hustling to the first singles win of the day on a crushing 6-0, 6-1 win over Robin Cambier in what would become Smith's 200th win with the Trojans.
The Pac-12 road sweep gave USC a 2-0 mark in conference action and improved USC to 21-0 in 2012 for an overall win streak of 41 in a row. Sarmiento improved to 29-8 in singles with a 14-3 dual-match mark, and is 20-4 in doubles with Nguyen to go with their 15-2 mark in dual matches.
Sarmiento now has four career selections as the conference's Player of the Week. He was the first Trojan this year to win, with a pick on January 30 after the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Sarmiento and the Trojans go back on the road this week for more Pac-12 play. On Friday (April 6), USC will visit Utah for a 1:30 p.m. MT match in Salt Lake City before heading to Tucson for a bout with Arizona at 11 a.m. on Saturday (April 7).
