UCF Registers Major Upset Over No. 3 USC

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- UCF hit .351 as a team Friday as the Knights upset the No. 3 USC Women of Troy, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-22), in action at the FGCU Homewood Suites Invitational. Three UCF players registered double-digit kills in the sweep.
Evija Vilde and and Angelica Crump had 15 kills each for UCF (3-1) while Kayla Keller added 12 kills. Keller tallied the double-double with 13 digs while setter Rachel Vukson had 42 assists and 10 digs.
USC (1-2) stumbled out of the gate and finished with a .135 hitting percentage in the match. Senior All-America middle blocker Lauren Williams led with nine kills, but the story was Alex Jupiter and Katie Fuller, who both hit .000 as the Women of Troy recorded 17 hitting errors in the match.
"You have to give UCF the credit for today's win," said USC head coach Mick Haley. "We need to be able to play defense and score points tonight against Florida Gulf Coast."
USC plays host Florida Gulf Coast later tonight at 7:30 p.m. Eastern (4:30 p.m. Pacific).
Notes: USC is playing five matches in five days, concluding on Tuesday at Cal State Northridge with only two days' rest before opening up Pac-12 Conference play at home against UCLA...UCF head coach Todd Dagenais was an assistant coach for USC from 2005-07...this was the first-ever meeting between UCF and USC in women's volleyball.
