Recent USC graduate Clement Lefert won a silver in the 200m free while junior Haley Anderson came from behind to win a gold medal in the 1500m free Thursday (Aug. 18) at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China.
Anderson, who won silver in the 800m free earlier in the meet, trailed Spain's Melania Schmid and New Zealand's Lauren Boyle late in the race before making her move.
She first passed Boyle after 1200 meters but remained a second behind Schmid with 100 meters to go. Reeling in her Spanish rival, Anderson pulled to within 0.41 with 50 meters to go and sprinted past Schmid over the final 50 to win 16:21.72 to 16:21.79. Anderson was a three-time All-American as a 2011 sophomore.
Lefert, competing for France, won a silver medal in the 200m free in 1:47.78. He led through 150 meters but was caught by American Matthew McLean (1:47.44).
Lindsay DePaul, like Lefert a recent USC graduate and multi-All-American honoree, took fourth in the 100m fly (59.17). She was also fifth in the 50m fly earlier in the meet.
At the FINA World Juniors in Lima, Peru, Trojan freshman Chad Bobrosky of Canada won the men's 200m free in 1:49.13.
