Husack, Poldma Earn ITA Regional Honors

Another round of postseason accolades have put two more Trojans in the limelight following USC's run to a third straight NCAA Team Championship. Senior captain Jaak Poldma -- also an academic all-star -- has been selected as the ITA Southwest Region Senior of the Year. And in his second season on staff with the Trojans, USC associate head coach George Husack has been honored as the ITA Southwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
An NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner toting a 3.68 GPA as a double major at the conclusion of his Trojan playing career, Jaak Poldma now has his first official ITA honors to go along with his three NCAA Team Championships. The ITA Southwest Region Senior of the Year holds a 103-35 career singles record at USC, including a 69-20 mark in dual-match singles play. In doubles, he was 87-40 overall and 67-28 in dual matches. Poldma also picked up additional academic honors earlier in the season with selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team.
Associate head coach George Husack has seen his Trojans win NCAA team titles in the past two seasons after head coach Peter Smith brought him on staff to start the 2009-10 campaign. This season, Husack helped guide the 2011 Trojans back to another national championship, as USC finished the year on a 19-match win streak in successfully defending its previous two crowns. The 2011 NCAA champs went 27-2 overall. The selection as the ITA Southwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year is the first such honor for Husack.
