The first major international water polo competitions of the summer are queued up to kick off this month, with a pile of USC athletes in the mix to represent their respective countries. Six Women of Troy and three Trojan men are drawn up for action in the 2011 FINA World League Super Finals, held in China and Italy for the women and men, respectively.
Receiving her first call-up for U.S Women's National Team action overseas is goalie Tumua Anae, who joins Lauren Wenger and Anae's fellow 2010 NCAA Champion Kami Craig on the USA women's roster for the coming FINA Women's World League Super Finals in Tianjin, China, held June 14-19. The three USC grads could face off against other Trojan alums, as NCAA champ Joelle Bekhazi and another recent grad Rosanna Tomiuk both hold posts on the Canadian team and Russia's all-star Sofia Konoukh is on the roster for her home country once again, bringing in her experience as USC's No. 2 all-time scorer and a 2000 Olympic bronze medalist for Russia. Craig and Wenger also are on the list of Women of Troy with Olympic hardware, as the two Cutino Award winners won silver with the USA at the 2008 Olympic Games.
On the men's side of the game, Team USA has two Trojans on the roster in Shea Buckner and another Olympic silver medalist and back-to-back Cutino Award winner, J.W. Krumpholz. Those two were also members of USC's 2008 and 2009 NCAA Championship teams along with current Trojan goalie Joel Dennerley. Dennerley has been named to the Australian National Team to also see action at the 2011 FINA Men's World League Super Finals, held June 21-26 in Florence, Italy.
