
No. 2 USC Women Get Beat in Berkeley

BERKELEY, CALIF. -- The No. 2 USC women's water polo team was upset today on the road, coming up against a stubborn Cal defense as the Trojans fell 8-3 to the No. 5 Bears in Berkeley. Cal goalie Stephanie Peckham had 20 saves against the Trojans to help anchor the Bears' win. USC goes to 9-3 overall and is now 1-1 in MPSF play. Cal improves to 15-3, 3-0.
The Bears shut out USC 2-0 in the first period with Cal getting their goals in the last 2:30 of the period. USC finally got to the back of the net in the second period on a score from Kara-Leigh Huse to make it 2-1, but the Bears got another to go before halftime for a 3-1 Cal lead at the break.
The Bears would away in the second half, allowing only a goal a frame from the Trojans with Nadia Dan and Sarah Van Norman rounding out the offense for USC on the day. Cal, meanwhile, got up 5-2 on the way into the fourth period and managed three more strikes in the fourth to wrap up the upset win for the Bears.
The Women of Troy come home for two games next week, taking on Arizona State in an MPSF clash at 5 p.m. on Friday (March 11) and then hosting UC Irvine at 12 p.m. on Saturday (March 12).
