In her first game action as a Trojan, freshman goalie Flora Bolonyai had a powerful start to her USC career in making 31 saves in four games at the Stanford Invitational. For her impressive efforts at the first big tournament of 2011, Bolonyai has been named the MPSF Newcomer of the Week.
Bolonyai's new career high came in the title match against Stanford, as she pinned up 10 saves in a sudden-death matchup against the Cardinal. One of those saves came in a huge stop against a Cardinal 5-meter penalty shot during sudden death. Bolonyai had opened the tourney with eight saves against Indiana, allowing just one goal in her collegiate debut. She had five against UCLA, and tallied eight saves again vs. Hawai'i to help anchor the Trojan defense.
Bolonyai and the Trojans now have their home opener coming soon, with USC hosting Cal Baptist in a 3 p.m. match on Saturday (Feb. 12) at McDonald's Swim Stadium.
