Former Swimmer Cindy Makens Dies

Cindy Makens Fearnley, a member of the USC women's swim team from 1991-1994, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 11).
Originally from Sunfish Lake, Minn., she had recently been residing in San Diego.
At USC, she competed (under the name Cindy Makens) in a variety of events, including the freestyle, butterfly and backstroke. She was one of Troy's top swimmers in the 100y fly as a sophomore and placed 23rd in the event at the 1992 Pac-10s.
Makens Fearnley was an All-State swimmer at Convent of the Visitation High in St. Paul, Minn., where she once earned Parade Prep Athlete of the Week and the Minneapolis Star's Metro Athlete of the Week. She was a team captain as a 1990 senior.
