Former USC women's water polo standout Sofia Konoukh picked up another prestigious international award this month, recently named the MVP of the European Women's Water Polo Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. A member of the Russian National Team, Konoukh led her team to a gold medal by defeating Greece in the final.
Also named to the FINA World Cup All-Tournament Team along with two other fellow Women of Troy last month, Konoukh was the second leading scorer in the European Championships with 15 goals in five matches, scoring two of those in the championship match.
Konoukh, who finished her Trojan career in 2004, still stands as USC's second all-time leading scorer. As a member of Russia's national team, she has an Olympic bronze medal from the 2000 Games in Sydney and helped Russia to a fourth place finish in this year's FINA World Cup.
