USC senior goalie Tumua Anae went big against the Bruins over the weekend and has earned her fifth career selection as the MPSF Player of the Week. Anae dominated in the cage with 14 saves against No. 4 UCLA in leading the top-ranked Trojans to their second solid win over the Bruins this season. For her efforts, she has been honored as this week's MPSF Player of the Week - her first pick for the award this season.
In her final home game as a Trojan, Anae's 14 saves helped anchor a 14-5 win over crosstown rival UCLA in MPSF action at McDonald's Swim Stadium. Anae was just two saves away from her season high mark with the 14-save effort. With a shutout in the second period of play, Anae also allowed only five goals in the win, marking her 12th consecutive game allowing no more than six goals in a match. Now riding a 17-game win streak, USC improved to 19-1 overall and 5-0 in MPSF play with the win over the Bruins.
With double-digit saves outings in 10 of the past 11 games, Anae is the conference leader with 9.95 saves per game this season and has USC standing as the top defensive team in the MPSF with just 4.85 goals allowed per game.
USC now enters a big finale weekend of MPSF play as the Women of Troy first visit San Jose State before taking on No. 2 Stanford in a match that will decide the top seed for the coming MPSF Tournament. The Trojans and the Cardinal each hold just a single loss this year after having traded wins during regular-season tournaments earlier this year. USC visits the Spartans at 4 p.m. on Friday (April 23) and clashes with the Cardinal at 4 p.m. on Saturday (April 24).
