Trojans At San Diego Crew Classic

The 2010 USC women's rowing team has traveled south from Los Angeles to take part in its biggest event thus far of the season at the 37th annual San Diego Crew Classic, Saturday and Sunday (March 26-27), in Mission Bay, Calif.
USC has four eights racing this weekend, its first and second varsities, an open boat and a novice boat.
The top three finishers in each of the first varsity heats will advance to the grand final on Sunday. Two teams from each heat of the second varsity, open/club and novices races will advance to Sunday's grand final.
USC is ranked tied for 10th in the preseason USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Coaches Poll. For the first year, the poll is ranking the top 20 teams, not just the varsity eights.
The Trojans' first varsity will race in the second heat of the Collegiate Varsity Invitational Whittier-Jessop Cup. USC's heat at 9 a.m. includes Radcliffe, Grand Valley and UC Davis. The first heat, at 8:50 a.m., includes Virginia, Washington State, UCLA and Villanova.
USC's second varsity will race at 10 a.m. in the first heat of three heats in pursuit of the Collegiate JV Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy. Troy's heat includes Virginia B, Sacramento State, UC Davis and KSU.
At 11:15 a.m. USC's novice squad will be participating in heat C of the preliminaries of the Collegiate Novice Laurel V. Korholz Perpetual Trophy against St. Mary's, LMU, Minnesota, Pacific and UC Santa Barbara.
Rounding out the first day of preliminary competition for the Trojans will be heat B of the Open Carley Copley Cup at 1:40 p.m. against UC Irvine, Santa Clara 1A, UC Santa Barbara and UC Sand Diego B.
