USC sophomore forward Evan Smith who has been out of action due to injury since early in the preseason had a successful left shoulder surgery on Dec. 23 and will be out the remainder of the season.
Smith, USC's only sophomore scholarship player, had his left shoulder glenoid labrum repaired by Dr. Thomas Vangsness at USC Hospital on Dec. 23. He is expected to have a full recovery and be ready for the 2011-12 season.
Smith has been unable to practice since early in the preseason or play in a game for USC. He played in eight games as a freshman, averaging 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds. Smith played 33 minutes off the bench in USC's season-opener last season and had a best game of eight points vs. Coppin State on Nov. 27, 2009.
