The USC women's water polo team welcomes a group of six newcomers to Troy for the 2011-12 season, USC head coach Jovan Vavic has announced. Signing letter of intent to join the Women of Troy -- who captured last year's 2010 NCAA championship -- are a set of six strong players: Michelle Caron, Devon Chiapello, Eike Daube, Savannah Fletcher, Sara Macias and Sara Salamon.
"This is an oustanding class," Vavic said of the group. "This class fills in major holes that we will be losing after this year. These players are expected to contrinbute immediately."
The Trojans are bringing in a pair of players from Riverside Poly in drivers Sara Macias and Sara Salamon. Northern California products Devon Chiapello and Michelle Caron hail from East Bay powers Carondelet and Miramonte high schools, respectively. Caron is tabbed for duties as a utility player for the Women of Troy, with Chiapello joining the drivers for USC. Eike Daube comes to Troy out of Wilson High in Long Beach, and Savannah Fletcher joins the Trojans from Agoura High. Daube shines as a two-meter player, and Fletcher is a driver.
"For some of these players the sky is the limit," Vavic said. "In terms of their work ethic this is one of the hardest working recruiting classes we've had in a while."
