The USC women's swimming and diving team, led by a pair of wins by senior Presley Bard, finished the first day of the 2010 SMU Invite in first place among five teams on Friday (Oct. 29) in Dallas.
In a meet in which eight swimmers and one diver compete, with only one swimmer per heat, Troy swept all eight events and finished with 212 points. SMU is tied for second (155) with Purdue while Louisville is fourth (146) and Rice is fifth (108).
The Trojans opened with a win in the 400y medley relay as Bard, freshman Kasey Carlson, senior Lyndsay DePaul and sophomore Christel Simms won in 3:39.28 (NCAA B).
Junior Katinka Hosszu followed the event with an easy win in the 400y IM in 4:10.20, less than three seconds off an NCAA A cut and almost 14 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Sophomore Haley Anderson claimed the 200y free in 1:47.36 (NCAA B), the distance specialist earning a first in the middle distance event by a half second over SMU's Nina Rangelova.
DePaul took first in the 100y fly in 52.82 (NCAA B) and was followed by a win on 1-meter springboard by junior diver Victoria Ishimatsu.
Bard won the 100y back in 53.69 and was followed by Carlson's first in the 100y breast (1:02.24), both times NCAA B cuts. Bard came back to win the 50y free (23.23), edging Purdue's Ariel Martin (23.65).
The Trojans finished the meet with a big win in the 800y free as Anderson, Hosszu, DePaul and freshman Meghan Hawthorne touched first in 7:15.80 (NCAA B).
The meet finishes Saturday.
