
Trojans Sweep 3 Matches In USC Fall Tourney Second Day

The USC men's volleyball team swept all 3 of its matches--against Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara and UCLA--on the second day of the 6-team USC Fall Tournament on Saturday (Oct. 23) in the Galen Center Pavilion.
Coupled with its pair of victories on Friday, the Trojans were the only team to post a perfect 5-0 mark in the tourney. On Friday, USC beat both Cal State Northridge and Pacific.
All matches were the best of 3 sets, with the first 2 sets played to 25 points and the third set to 15 points. For matches that were decided in 2 sets, teams had the option of playing a non-counting third set.
On Saturday, USC defeated Long Beach State, 25-23, 25-22 (then lost 15-13 in the third set), UC Santa Barbara, 25-23, 25-21 (but lost the third set, 15-13) and UCLA, 25-21, 25-21 (and captured the third set, 15-12).
In other matches on Saturday, UC Santa Barbara beat both Cal State Northridge, 17-25, 25-22, 15-11, and Pacific, 17-25, 25-21, 15-10, Long Beach State beat both Cal State Northridge, 25-14, 25-22 (and won the third set, 15-11) and Pacific, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10, Cal State Northridge defeated UCLA, 25-23, 18-25, 15-11, and UCLA beat Pacific, 25-13, 25-17 (and won 15-11 in the third set).
This was the first pre-season tourney for USC. The Trojans next play an alumni match on Nov. 6 before heading to UCLA on Nov. 19 and 20 for the UCLA SAC Tournament, with UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge in the field.
