USC sophomore outside hitter Murphy Troy was named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association National Division I/II Player of the Week and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Co-Player of the Week for his performance in the Trojans' pair of victories over No. 9 BYU last weekend.
He is USC's first AVCA honoree since All-American Brook Billings in April of 2002. This is the second time in 2009 that Troy was named MPSF Co-Player of the Week (he also was selected on Jan. 12).
In USC's 4-set win on Feb. 6, Troy had a match-high 28 kills while hitting a blazing .610, and he added 9 digs and 2 aces, to help snap the Trojans' 14-match losing streak to the Cougars that dated to 2001.
He then came back on Feb. 7 to get a match-best 24 kills while hitting .391 and added 5 digs and 3 aces in the tight 5-set victory to give USC its first consecutive wins over the Cougars since 1997-98.
For the week, he hit .494 and averaged 5.78 kills, 6.5 points and 1.56 digs per set.
