USC driver Veronika Bartunkova scored nine goals in two games for the Trojans in a pair of MPSF victories over the weekend, earning the senior her first career selection as an MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week.
Against UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Bartunkova scored a career-high five goals while adding two steals and two assists. The following day in an important road match against San Diego State, Bartunkova led USC in scoring for the third straight game in tallying four goals as USC snapped a nine-game win streak held by the Aztecs and improved the Trojans' record to 14-5 overall and 7-1 in MPSF play. Bartunkova is second on the team in scoring with 33 goals -- bettering her previous season-high mark of 27 goals in her junior season.
Bartunkova is the third Trojan to be named an MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week. Junior Michelle Stein has earned the honor twice, and sophomore goalie Tumua Anae also won the award earlier this season.
