Jason Jablonsky had 17 kills to lead the No. 2-ranked UC Irvine men's volleyball team to a 30-21, 32-30, 30-21 sweep over No. 12 USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Thursday (March 29) in USC's Galen Center.
The Anteaters won their 10th match in a row to improve to 22-3 overall and 15-3 in the MPSF, while the Trojans had their 4-match winning streak snapped to fall to 10-12 overall and 7-10 in the MPSF.
Jablonsky hit .538 overall and added 5 digs, while teammate Matt Webber had 9 kills, 7 digs and 6 blocks.
For USC, Juan Figueroa had 10 kills.
UCI hit .346 to USC's -.024 and outblocked the Trojans, 17.5 to 3.5.
The Anteaters jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the first game and steadily pulled away while hitting .480. UCI staved off 3 game points at 29-26 in the second game and rallied back to win. Then, in the third game, UCI broke away from a 10-10 tie by scoring 5 of the next 6 points and never surrendered the lead.
USC next hosts No. 4 UCLA on Saturday (March 31) in an MPSF contest at 8 p.m. in the Galen Center, with Lexus Gauntlet points on the line. The match will be televised on a one-hour delayed basis on FSN Prime at 9 p.m. that evening.
