Allen Finals In 500y Free At Pac-10 Championships

Junior Brittany Allen competed in her first conference final race, finishing a career-best seventh to pace the No. 14 USC women's swimming team on the second day of the 2007 Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships on Thursday (Feb. 15) at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.
USC is in fifth at the meet's halfway point with 262 points. Stanford leads with 546.5 and is followed by Cal (442), Arizona (409.5), UCLA (359), USC, Oregon State (186), Washington (181), ASU (178) and Washington State (165).
Allen, whose previous best was a 15th in the 500y last year, finished the event in 4:49.08 for her seventh. She qualified for the final with a season-best 4:47.99 in prelims.
Freshman Kristina Rigterink just missed qualifying for the final, her prelim time of 4:48.83 a season-best and just a half second off a top eight mark. Junior Whitney Hentzen finished just behind Rigterink in 4:49.04. Rigterink and Hentzen finished 13th (4:49.56) and 12th (4:48.37), respectively, after consolation final swims.
Kristen Lahey earned a second swim in the 50y free and made the most of it, swimming a season-best 22.92. Rachael Waller and Emily Goetsch did the same in the 500y free, each posting season bests in 4:51.47 and 4:51.81, respectively.
Rigterink, senior Kristina Sieper, sophomore Missy McIntyre and freshman Whitney Stephenson took seventh in the 200y free in 1:34.29.
The meet continues Friday and Saturday with prelims at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
