EUGENE, Ore. -- Gorana Maricic recorded 29 kills and 14 digs Thursday as the No. 20 Oregon Ducks upset the No. 6 USC Women of Troy, 3-1 (30-21, 30-26, 28-30, 30-28), in a Pac-10 match at McArthur Court. USC tried to rally from a 2-0 deficit in the match, but two kills from Maricic at 27-27 in game four aided the Ducks with the victory.
Maricic hit .436 as the Ducks improved to 17-9 overall and 6-8 in Pac-10 play as USC falls to 20-4 overall and 9-4 in conference. Oregon hit .326 as a team in the match.
Senior All-America outside hitter Asia Kaczor had 25 kills with nine digs and four blocks while hitting .396 for the Trojans. Freshman Geena Urango had 16 kills while junior Jessica Gysin had 11 kills, but both players hit below .200 in the match. Sophomore setter Taylor Carico recorded 56 assists and 11 digs for USC. Freshman middle blocker Zoe Garrett had one of her better matches of the season, hitting .421 in the match (9-1-19) with three digs.
Neticia Enesi hit a sizzling .471 (9-1-17) for the Ducks, who recorded just their seventh win all-time in 47 meetings between the two schools. Heather Meyers had 15 kills while Sonja Newcombe chipped in 13 kills.
USC travels to Oregon State tomorrow for a 7 p.m. match before returning home for its final two regular season matches against No. 4 Washington and Washington State. Friday's match against Washington will begin at 7:30 p.m. and broadcast live in the Pacific Northwest by FOX Sports Net.
