USC Men's Volleyball Incoming Freshmen Recruits Star This Summer

All three of USC's incoming freshmen men's volleyball recruits are in the national news this summer.
Hunter Current, a 6-8 middle blocker from Bellarmine Prep in San Jose, Calif., has been selected to the 2006 USA Volleyball Men's Junior National Team.
The Junior National team will compete at the 2006 NORCECA Men's Junior Zonal Qualification Tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, from Aug. 6 to 14 in hopes of qualifying for the 2007 Men's Junior World Championships
Johnathan Hackett, a 6-8 outside hitter from Brighton High in Rochester, N.Y., is a member of the 2006 USA Volleyball Men's Junior National A2 Team.
The A2 team, composed of players born in 1987 and 1988, is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance Program that serves as a pipeline for young athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of the sport. Although the 2006 A2 team won't compete in matches, it will consist of a developmental camp program that will train alongside the 2006 Men's Junior National team at the USA Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., from July 26 to 31.
New USC head coach Bill Ferguson is the head coach of the A2 team.
Joey Dykstra, a 6-6 outside hitter from Redondo Union High in Redondo Beach, Calif., won a silver medal with partner Andy McGuire at the USA Volleyball Beach Junior Olympic Championships in the Under 20 division on July 21-22.
All three recruits also made the prestigious 2006 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 list.
Previously, Current made the 2006 Volleyball Magazine All-American honorable mention team and was the MVP of the 2006 All-West Catholic Athletic League. He made the 2005 U.S. Boys' Youth National A2 team. He was a member of Bellarmine Prep's 2005 CIF Central Coast championship team.
Dykstra made the 2006 Volleyball Magazine All-American first team, All-CIF Division I first team, Los Angeles Times All-Star first team and South Bay Daily Breeze All-Area first team and All-Bay League MVP as Redondo was the CIF Division I runner-up. He had 346 kills, 231 digs and 74 blocks as a senior. As a junior in 2005, his honors included All-CIF Division I first team, Los Angeles Times All-Star second team, South Bay Daily Breeze All-Area first team and All-Bay League first team, as well as being named MVP of the Redondo Tournament and earning All-Tourney honors at the Francis Parker and Redondo/Mira Costa tourneys. He had 357 kills, 184 digs, 55 blocks and 33 aces in 2005.
He won 2005 All-American Under 17 honors as his club team won a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics. He also was a member of the 2004 U.S. Boys' Youth National A2 team and the 2003 U.S. Boys' High Performance camp.
Dykstra also has a history of success in junior beach volleyball. He placed third at the 2005 U.S. Junior Olympic Beach Championships Under 21 and he won the Under 18 event in 2004. He also was second at the 2005 AAU Boys Junior Beach Championships Under 19, won a silver medal at the 2005 Junior Beach World Championships Under 21 and competed in 4 AVP events.
