
Women of Troy Earn All-Academic Honors

The USC women's water polo team has placed four players on various academic honor lists for the 2006 season. Earning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation recognition for their academic achievements through the fall semester are sophomore Veronika Bartunkova and juniors Erika Figge, Brittany Hayes and Marina Mayer. Bartunkova and Mayer also boast current GPAs worthy of Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches honors.
Mayer, a 2-meter defender, boasts the highest GPA on the team, holding 3.67 after the fall semester. This is her second Academic All-MPSF award and first national honor on the ACWPC All-Academic Team, where her stellar GPA earned her Superior status. Bartunkova, a driver with a 3.20 GPA after the fall, has earned her first Academic All-MPSF nod as well as an Excellent ranking on the ACWPC All-Academic Team.
Figge and Hayes -- both utility players for the Women of Troy -- have earned their first Academic All-MPSF award this season. Figge held a 3.01 GPA after the fall, and Hayes held a 3.07.
The MPSF awards Academic All-MPSF honors to scholar-athletes with a 3.0 or better GPA. Athletes also muct have participated in at least 50 percent of their institution's competition. To earn ACWPC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 GPA and be an active participant receiving significant playing time.
