Former USC All-American and current student assistant swimming coach Jo Fargus (Australia) won a gold medal in the 200-meter backstroke on Monday (March 20) at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.
Fargus, who suffered a severe ankle injury in 2003 and has steadily fought her way back into elite competition, won the race in 2:10.36.
Fargus won a silver in the event at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, won a bronze in it at the 2001 World Championships and was ninth in the race at the 2000 Olympics.
She was a four-time All-American as a freshman at USC in 2002, before suffering the ankle injury that prohibited her from swimming at full strength in 2003 and 2004. She won the Pac-10 title in the 200y back in 2005.
