LOS ANGELES - For the second straight evening, All-America candidate Asia Kaczor (Wroclaw, Poland/College of Southern Idaho) led with 23 kills Saturday as the No. 6 USC Women of Troy recorded the 3-0 sweep (30-25, 30-24, 30-19) sweep over the Arizona State Sun Devils. A crowd of 1,135 witnessed the Pac-10 Conference match at Galen Center as Kaczor scorched ASU with a .541 hitting clip with the team hitting .379 on the night.
In the two matches against Arizona State this season, Kaczor registered 50 kills in eight games.
USC is now 21-3 on the season and 10-3 in the Pac-10 while Arizona State falls to 11-13 overall and 3-10 in conference play.
Junior Diane Copenhagen (Saratoga/St. Francis HS) added 13 kills for USC while freshman setter Taylor Carico had a season-high eight kills to go with 47 assists and 10 digs.
Paige Mittelstaedt led the Sun Devils with 12 kills, hitting .421 on the evening while Tierra Burnley added 11 kills.
In the battle of the Pac-10's top two liberos, USC's Debora Seilhamer had 14 digs while ASU's Sydney Donahue had 10 digs.
Kaczor recorded nine of her kills in the first game, but it was Copenhagen who helped the Women of Troy with three kills late to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
With ASU leading 13-11 in the second game, USC reeled off seven straight points for the 18-13 score. Carico's "310" kill put USC ahead, 22-16. The Women of Troy closed out the second game and held the Sun Devils in check to earn the sweep.
USC travels to the Bay Area next weekend for two key Pac-10 matches at Stanford on Friday (Nov. 9) and California on Saturday (Nov. 10).
