Trojans Defeat Cal Poly Pomona In Final Exhibition Game

The USC men's basketball team defeated Cal Poly Pomona 56-47 today (Nov. 11) in an exhibition game at the Galen Center in their final tune-up before the regular season. The Trojans will open the 2006-07 season on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. vs. two-time defending NIT champion South Carolina at the Galen Center.
The contest against the Gamecocks with be the first official game for the USC men's team in the spectacular new Galen Center and will feature a special halftime tribute to Ryan Francis who was shot in May while back home in Louisiana visiting his mother, Paulette, who will be in attendance at the game.
Freshman Taj Gibson led the Trojans with 11 points and grabbed four rebounds. Freshman Dwight Lewis and sophomore RouSean Cromwell chipped in with nine points apiece.
Senior guard Lodrick Stewart led USC in rebounds with seven and added eight points, a block and a steal. 2005-06 All-Pac-10 swingman Nick Young added seven points and two assists.
USC outrebounded the Broncos 36-31 and outscored them in the paint 26-10. USC shot 40.9 percent for the game (18-for-44) and held Cal Poly Pomona to 29.8 percent shooting (14-for-47).
