LOS ANGELES--The USC Trojan men's basketball team, under the direction of new head coach Tim Floyd, has announced its 29-game slate of games for the 2005-06 season. The Trojans will play 16 home games, including a December 21 contest against defending national champion North Carolina.
The Trojans will play two exhibition games at the Lyon Center on Nov. 4 versus Cal State Dominguez Hills and on Nov. 13 versus Cal State San Bernardino, before opening the regular schedule by hosting Cal State Northridge at the Sports Arena on November 20. The 2005-06 season will be USC's last at the Sports Arena, before moving into the new state-of-the-art Galen Center, which will be completed prior to the 2006-07 season.
The Trojans will compete in the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska from Nov. 23-26 in a field that includes Alaska Anchorage, Eastern Washington, Marquette, Monmouth, Oral Roberts, South Carolina and a team to be determined. The Trojans last played in the holiday tournament in Alaska during the 1983 season.
Pac-10 conference play will begin with home games on Dec. 29 versus California and New Year's eve against Stanford (both games will be at a site to be determined). The games against cross-town rival UCLA during the 2005-06 season will take place on Jan. 19 at UCLA and then the Trojans will host the Bruins on Feb. 18. Defending Pac-10 champion Washington will visit the Sports Arena on Jan. 14 and perennial conference power Arizona will visit on Feb. 2.
The Trojans will close out conference play in the Bay Area with a game at Stanford on March 2 and at California on March 4. The Pac-10 Tournament will be held from March 8-11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. USC returns their top three scorers in sophomores Gabe Pruitt and Nick Young and junior Lodrick Stewart from last year's 12-17 squad, which graduated six seniors. Last season was the first time in school history that the Trojans' top three scorers were sophomores or freshmen.
Floyd has already put his stamp on the program by signing the nation's seventh rated recruiting class, according to HOOP SCOOP. With a new coach, the return of a solid nucleus and a deep and talented recruiting class, 2005-06 promises to be an exciting season.
