Hartley Wins Fifth Career Pac-10 Diving Title

USC junior diver Blythe Hartley won her fifth career conference title while sophomore Kalyn Keller and junior Stacy Vazhenin both reached the final of the 500y free on the second night of the 2005 Women's Pac-10 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center on Thursday (Feb. 24) in Federal Way, Wash.
USC is in fifth after two days with 332 points. Stanford is in first with 577 and is followed by Arizona (421), UCLA (353.5), California (348 5) and USC
Hartley, who took the 2004 season off to train for the 2004 Olympics (and ultimately won a bronze medal) won the 1-meter springboard with 318.90 points, comfortably ahead of second-place finisher Ashley Rosenthal of Stanford (295.45). USC junior Jashia Luna was ninth in the event.
Hartley's title gives USC at least one Pac-10 title in every year since 1994. USC is also looking to win at least three Pac-10 individual titles for the fifth year in a row. Hartley's title also gives USC at least one Pac-10 diving title in nine of the last 10 years.
In the 500y free, Keller took fourth in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:43.23 while Vazhenin took eighth in 4:52.66 (though her prelim time of 4:49.87 was an NCAA `B' cut).
Senior co-captain Marisa Kozak was USC's highest finisher in the 200y IM, taking 12th in 2:01.75 (NCAA `B' cut).
USC's 200y free relay was seventh.
