LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. -- Freshman Brittany Hayes scored three goals Friday as the No. 1 ranked USC Trojans opened the 2004 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship with a 9-5 win over No. 9 seed UC Santa Barbara at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Center. USC maintained its perfect record and school-record streak by improving to 25-0 overall.
The Women of Troy will take on host and No. 5 seed Long Beach State on Saturday at 5 p.m.

RECAP: UCSB scored 0:15 into the game as Kathy Kunkel found the back of the net, but USC countered with five unanswered to take a 5-1 halftime lead. UCSB fought back though, trailing 7-2 mid-way through the third quarter, the Gauchos scored three consecutive goals. Nicola Bishop's goal at 5:04 in the fourth cut the deficit to 7-5, but USC countered with two final goals to come away with the win. Brittany Hayes had three goals for USC and Erin Wilson and Jana Wenger two. RECAP: In a game of runs, UCSB tallied five straight late in the second half to give them the first upset of the afternoon. SJSU used three straight goals, including two in the second half and another off a Cox goal at 5:33 in the third, to give SJSU a 6-5 lead. The Gauchos then scored five straight, as Stachowski's second goal, at 1:39 in the third, proved to be the go-ahead goal at 7-6. UCSB went up by as many as 10-9, before two straight goals by SJSU, the final with 47 seconds left by Rachel Rhodes, closed to within 10-9. Kristina Kunkel scored three goals for the Bruins and Katie Flanagan two. Cal led 3-2 in the second quarter before goals by Kunkel (3:40) and Flanagan (2:51) gave UCLA a 4-3 halftime lead. The 49ers advance to Saturday's semi-finals vs. USC at 5 pm. The Beach jumped to a 3-0 lead after one quarter and 4-1 at halftime. In the third quarter, each team brought out its offense as the 49ers scored four goals and the Aztecs three. LBSU led 8-4 after three quarters and Garcia's second goal, at 6:21, sealed the 49er victory. 49er goalie Bri Hawkins had seven saves.
