Mellouli, Hilde Win Twice In Trojan Loss To Cal

Sophomore Ous Mellouli and freshman Michael Hilde each won twice while senior Trent Staley won once, but USC still fell short against a balanced Cal team that won the other six individual events and two relays en route to a 152-89 win at USC on Friday (Feb. 6).
Mellouli won the 1500m free in 15:23.86 (NCAA consideration) and the 400m free in 3:53.84. Staley edged teammate Tyler Panos to win the 200m free, 1:49.33 (NCAA consideration) to 1:50.78. Tyler Storie took second to Mellouli in the 1500m free in 15:34.48.
Hilde won the 1-meter with 335.54 points and the 3-meter with 328.80
Cal's wins included Rolandas Gimbutus in the 50m free (22.38), Jeff Natalizio in the 200m IM (2:01.51), Milorad Cavic in the 200m fly (1:59.02), Jonas Tilly in the 100m free (49.73), Alex Lim in the 200m back (1:56.31) and Caleb Rowe in the 200m breast (2:12.86).
The Bears went 1-2-3 in the 200m fly, 100m free and the 200m breast.
USC's men's team hosts No. 3 Stanford on Saturday (Feb. 7) at 1 p.m. at McDonald's Swim Stadium.
