Santa Barbara, Calif.- Mike Nelson had a 17 kills and seven digs, hitting an average of .615 to lead the men's volleyball team to a 30-25, 30-21, 30-23 win over visiting Trojans Friday night.
The Gauchos, 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, hit .443 as a team. Outside hitter Jake Wien accumulated 14 kills, hitting an average of .455 overall and Michael Kennedy had seven kills and 6 blocks total. Nate Wake also contributed with seven kills. Libero Aaron Mansfield had 12 digs while setter Dane Jensen assisted the Gauchos with match-high 45 assists.
USC's outside hitters Joao Grangeiro had 10 kills while both Jeff Bailey and Blake Tippett had nine kills. The Trojans also received major contributions from setter J.T. Glimour who notched 37 assists and ended with a .402 setting percentage. Libero Doug English had seven digs.
