USC guard Desmon Farmer has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 12-18, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Farmer, a senior from Flint, Mich., averaged 33.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in a split with the Arizona schools. In the upset win over No. 7 Arizona, Farmer posted a career-best 40 points on 11-of-18 (.611) shooting from the field, which included 7-of-11 (.636) from three-point range, and was 11-of-12 (.917) from the free throw line. In addition, he added seven rebounds and two assists. It was the sixth 40-point effort in USC history, and the first since Harold Miner posted 43 points at Nebraska on Nov. 25, 1991.
In the loss to Arizona State, Farmer responded with 26 points on 7-of-17 (.412) shooting from the field, 4-of-11 (.364) from three-point range and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. He added three rebounds and one assist. For the weekend, he shot 18-of-36 (.500) from the field, 11-of-22 (.500) from three-point range and 19-of-20 (.950) from the charity stripe.
This is the first weekly honor for Farmer, and the 24th all time for the Trojans. It is USC's first such honor since David Bluthenthal won it late in the 2002 season.
