The USC men's volleyball team opened its 2004 season by placing fourth in the eight-team UC Santa Barbara Collegiate Invitational on Jan. 9 and 10.

The Trojans opened with a thrilling comeback victory over UC Irvine, winning 26-30, 19-30, 30-28, 30-26, 20-18 on Jan. 9.

USC then was swept by both UCLA, 30-21, 30-21, 30-21, and then Long Beach State in the third place match, 30-18, 30-27, 30-27, on Jan. 10.

Troy, which was 6-25 last season in Turhan Douglas' first year as head coach, this week opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play when it hosts Long Beach State on Friday (Jan. 16) in the Lyon Center and then UC San Diego on Saturday (Jan. 17) in the North Gym. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
