LONG BEACH, CA - The Ball State men's volleyball team improved to 11-6 on the season, after defeating the USC Trojans (5-18), 3-1, on Saturday night of the 2003 Asics/Active Ankle Beach Bash, at The Pyramid. Game scores were 30-26, 29-31, 30-26, 30-19.
Josh Zuidema and Kyle Weindel led the Cardinals with 19 kills each, while Matthew Denmark added 10. Weindel also added nine digs, two aces, and four block assists to his match totals as well. As a team, BSU connected for 70 kills (for a .358 hitting percentage), 40 digs, and 16.5 total blocks.
Mark Dusharme led the Trojans with a team-high 15 kills in the losing effort. Joao Grangeiro (13 kills), and Phil Small (11 kills), rounded out the top Trojan scoring. After hitting above .300 in the first two games, USC hit just .077 in the third set, and .029 in the fourth and final frame.
