Freshman middle blocker Any Hein and sophomore outside hitter Sean Rooney both collected a match-high total of 13 kills on Thursday night to lead top-ranked Pepperdine to a 30-18, 30-26, 30-28 sweep of local rival USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) contest played at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Junior outside hitter Fred Winters contributed 11 kills to go along with 11 digs, while senior middle blocker Brad Keenan added 10 kills and a match-best five total blocks for the Waves.
Pepperdine extended its winning streak to 11 matches and improved to 12-1 overall and 10-0 in MPSF action. The Waves have not lost since dropping a three-game decision at home to UC Irvine on January 6.
USC, 3-11 overall and 1-9 in MPSF play, was led by junior outside hitter Phil Peterson who accumulated a team-best total of 11 kills.
Pepperdine recorded a team hitting percentage of .306 and limited the Trojans to a .106 team attack mark. The Waves won the blocking battle by a 9-7 margin and totaled 33 digs compared to just 22 for USC.
