Rainey Advances To Second Round of NCAA Singles Championship

College Station, Texas - One day after capturing the 2002 NCAA Team Championship, USC men's tennis senior Nick Rainey is still recording victories. With a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win against John Chesworth of Furman University, Rainey advances to the second round of the singles individual championships.
Rainey will face eighth-seeded Benjamin Becker of Baylor in the second round to be played on Thursday, May 23, at 11 a.m. CST at the Texas A&M Tennis Stadium. This is Rainey's first-ever appearance in the singles championships.
Teammate and fellow senior Andrew Park, playing in his second-consecutive NCAA individual tournament, suffered a first-round loss to Xavier Luscan of Florida State, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, on Wednesday. Park completes his season with a 26-16 overall singles record.
Doubles competition will also begin on Thursday. USC's 5-8 seed Rainey and Ryan Moore will face Oliver Choo and Jonathan Chu of Harvard in the first round.
