USC Head Coach Dick Leach retires in style with his fourth national championship after producing upset wins in each of the last four rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
USC freshman Prakash Armitraj, who clinched each of the Trojans last three team victories, was named NCAA Tournament MVP.
The Trojans upset No. 6 Baylor, No. 3 Illinois, No. 2 Tennessee and finally No. 1 Georgia to win the 2002 title.
USC earned All-Tournament Team honors at three of the six singles spots. Armitraj earned the No. 3 spot while Daniel Langre and Ruben Torres earned the No. 5 and 6 honors, respectively. Armitraj and Langre also teamed to win the No. 3 doubles spot.
The Trojan win gives USC a 16th national championship, its first since 1994.
USC is now 3-0 against Georgia in the national championship match.
Georgia's Brandon Wagner won the No. 2 single spot on the all-tournament team while Matias Boeker and Bo Hodge claimed the No. 1 doubles honor.
Georgia was 2-3 after losing the doubles point entering today. Their last doubles point loss was in a 4-3 loss to Tennessee in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.
The No. 1 doubles match was tied at five apiece when the double point was clinched by USC on No. 2.
USC held a 6-3, 6-6 (0-1) lead on No. 2 while being down 6-2, 5-6 on No. 4 when the match was decided.
