USC Hosts MPSF Women's Water Polo Championship This Weekend

LOS ANGELES-The nation's top 7 teams-including No. 1-ranked UCLA and co-No. 2 USC and Stanford-are part of the 12-team field for the 2002 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Water Polo Championship hosted by USC at the McDonald's Swim Stadium this Friday through Sunday (April 26-28).
Tickets, available at the gate or by calling (213) 740-GO SC, are $10 for a single day pass or $25 for a 3-day all-tournament pass. Students and senior citizens can buy a $5 single day pass or a $12 all-tournament pass.
Stanford is seeded first in the MPSF tourney (based on goal differential tiebreaker), USC is second, UCLA is third, No. 4-ranked California is seeded fourth, No. 7-ranked Long Beach State is fifth, co-No. 5-ranked San Jose State and San Diego State are sixth and seventh respectively, No. 11-ranked Hawaii is eighth, No. 12-ranked UC Santa Barbara is ninth, No. 18-ranked UC Irvine is 10th, No. 19-ranked Pacific is 11th and unranked Cal State Northridge is 12th.
The 8 first round games on April 26 begin at 8 a.m. (see schedule below).
Both the semifinals on April 27 and the finals on April 28 begin at 10 a.m., with 6 loser's bracket and winner's bracket games each day. The championship game is at 4:15 p.m. on April 28.
The winner of the MPSF tourney gets an automatic berth into the 4-team NCAA Championship May 11-12, also at USC. An NCAA at-large entrant also likely will emerge from the MPSF tourney.
