Trojan Men's Basketball Awards Announced

LOS ANGELES - Junior forwards Sam Clancy and David Bluthenthal and junior guard Brandon Granville, key components of the USC men's basketball team during its run to the 2001 NCAA Tournament East Regional Final, shared MVP honors at the team's annual awards banquet Sunday (April 8) on campus.

Clancy led the Trojans in scoring (17.3) and rebounding (7.5) this season, set a school record with 81 blocks and earned All-Pac-10 first team honors. Bluthenthal was third on the team in scoring (13.5) and had a team-high 65 three-pointers. Granville led USC in assists (6.0) and steals (1.7) and was fourth in scoring (12.4).

Senior forward Jarvis Turner earned the Sixth Man award for the second consecutive year while sophomore center Luke Minor and senior guard Jeff Trepagnier shared the award for most improved.

USC had three players share MVP honors for the first time in team history. USC had two players share the award in 1997, 1993 and 1982.

USC, which finished 24-10 and 11-7 in the Pacific-10 Conference (tied for fourth), concluded a historic season on March 24 when it fell to eventual NCAA champion Duke in the East Regional final. This season saw the Trojans advance to a Regional Final for the first time since 1954, win three games in an NCAA tourney for the first time ever and match their season record for wins (24).
