
Women's Water Polo Takes Third At UCSB Tournament

LOS ANGELES - The No. 3 USC women's water polo team took third place at the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Tournament after a 13-12 overtime loss Sunday to No. 1 Stanford and a 10-8 win against No. 4 California.
In a thrilling match against Stanford, the Women of Troy battled from a 6-3 deficit at halftime with five goals in the third period and two in the fourth. USC scored the lone goal in the first overtime period, but Stanford outscored the Trojans, 3-1, in the second overtime period to secure the victory.
USC finished the tournament with the win over California. The Trojans had a 7-6 lead at halftime and held off the Golden Bears to improve to 9-1 on the season.
Sophomore Katrin Dierolf recorded 12 goals during the tournament and is now second on the team with 21 goals, behind junior Sofia Konoukh (24 goals).
The Women of Troy will get their chance at revenge with an MPSF match on Friday (March 2) at No. 1 Stanford. USC will also play Saturday (March 3) at San Jose State in MPSF action.
