STOCKTON, Calif. - Jeff Larson scored four goals Saturday as the USC Trojans defeated the Pacific Tigers, 11-5, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action. The Trojans improve to 9-5 on the season and 4-2 in MPSF play while the Tigers fell to 5-10 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
After falling behind 2-0 in the opening quarter, junior Nic Hepner (Morgan Hill, Calif.) got the Tigers on track with the first of his two goals on the day in the final thirty seconds of the period. In the second, USC stretched their lead to 3-1 on a goal from Daniel Lontay, but the Tigers answered right back as Brady Norvall (Visalia, Calif.) scored with 4:32 remaining.
Moments later the Tigers appeared to tie the score on a goal from junior Chris Nowak (Manteca, Calif.), however the officials ruled that Nowak was inside the two-meter mark and the goal was disallowed. The Trojans capitalized on the momentum swing with two goals in the final minute of the second period to grab a 5-2 lead at the break.
In the third, USC put the game away with two quick goals from Jeff Larson. Larson led the Trojans on the day with four goals, while James Shin chipped in three.
The Trojans return home for an MPSF match against UC Irvine on Saturday (Nov. 3) at 10 a.m. at McDonald's Swim Stadium.
